Whenever I teach English 101, a class focused on personal essays, invariably at least half the students write about the death of a grandparent. This always leads to a conversation about whether or not someone can authentically write about something he or she has not experienced. I mention this because below you will find that I cover some tough subjects. Please do not infer too much. 

Also, I offer the caveat that I truly think I was a better poet at a younger age. Part of pulling work together in this portfolio is to try to understand what happened and to pick up where I left off.
